On Saturday, April 28, the Autism Alliance, a program of Advocates, capped off Autism Awareness Month with “Random Acts of Kite-ness” during their annual sensory-friendly Kite Day. Coincidentally, the event landed on the unofficial holiday to celebrate spreading kindness across the globe: “Pay It Forward Day.” Throughout the day, volunteers and staff showed “kite-ness” by randomly picking attendees to receive a sticker and a gift, which included raffle tickets, free admission, gift cards, and more.
Little did we know that our “Random Acts of Kite-ness” would be kicked off by Dan Oullettee, a long-time supporter of the Autism Alliance. A week before the event, he surprised Alliance co-director Allison Daigle with 300 easy-to-assemble kite packets for attendees who may not have their own kites at home. You can read more about his generous donation on the Autism Alliance website.
Kite Day attendees enjoyed a beautiful day of flying kites, trampoline jumping, pizza, trackless train rides, and more. They also had the opportunity to visit with Framingham firefighters and police officers, some of whom enjoyed flying their own kites!
We are grateful that more than 300 friends and families joined us at the 17th annual Kite Day. Many thanks to the volunteers from Natick High School Key Club, Framingham Fire & Police Departments, and special thanks to the sponsors who made the event possible: The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, Spectrum for Hope, Middlesex Savings Bank, The Guild for Human Services, Bose, Wegmans, Coady Connects/ReMax and Roche Bros.
